Monty Elementary School Practice Statement

-         There is a maximum of 18 children in each class

-         There are two teachers during lessons – one Czech speaker and one English speaker, preferably one female and one male. The lessons run in two languages (Czech and English) at the same time so pupils who speak Czech and other languages can understand.

-         Enrolment for the first and second grades is possible during all school year. It is also possible to arrange the transfer of a pupil currently registered at another school. All administrative matters concerned with student transfers will be handled by Monty School.

-         From September 2009 we have the first, second and third grades. Other grades will commence successively in forthcoming years.

-         The school provides a full-featured afternoon programme for children staying at school after the lessons. These afternoon classes offer clubs which specialise in particular subjects of each child‘s interests. The children can also do their homework with the help of tutors; they can work on their own projects or play.

-         Integrated Thematic Instruction – learning in context and with coherence, in small groups, working on projects (week, month, term, school year), grade-integration – cooperation of the elder children with lower grades.  This ensures that children who excel in one or more intelligences have adequate opportunity to advance in those areas, while remaining with their peers when working in areas where their capabilities meet the norm.

-         The schooling runs in accordance with Framework Education Programme of the Czech Ministry of Education (MŠMT) and the methodology used is a combination of several forward-looking and modern attitudes widely used in Scandinavia, the Netherlands and at two schools in the Czech Republic. The School Educational Programme (ŠVP) of Monty School and curriculum are kept as a matter of public record.

-         By the end of the Monty Elementary School attendance the pupils will be ready to pass entrance examinations to any grammar school in the Czech Republic and to most grammar schools abroad. And what is more, they will think independently and responsibly about their own lives. In future we may also open a private grammar school in Ostrava under the Monty School umbrella.

-         The founders of the school guarantee that the school fees will increase not more than 10% per year from the time of the first year enrolment.

-    The school consults with external professionals and prominent private and state institutions and organisations.

-    Every week parents are given an overview of the curriculum.

-    The school is equipped with facilities which comply with the needs of both the children and their parents. A good, harmonic and safe learning environment with an abundance of space and teaching aids for everybody is implicit.

-    Children from all walks of life will mix, and, as the building also houses a school for children with special needs, our children meet those children on occasion and develop tolerance for people who appear different to themselves. This is a great opportunity for children to familiarise themselves with people they may otherwise not meet, and know how to cope with problems.

-         The aim of the pedagogical and educational work of all teachers and tutors is to provide the best possible education for children – so they may know and understand the world in context, and they are tolerant, optimistic and hungry for knowledge. Children enjoy the school and they will also have a head start which can give them self-confidence.

-    Assessment of children is carried out during the school year in words, school records is without numeric or alphabetic marks (written assessment only). Parents can also receive a standard mark assessment should they require it. This can also be generated if the child changes schools.

-         During the primary level the children will pass Cambridge Young Learners English Tests consisting of three asssessment levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers; the three tests together form a bridge to take children learning English as a second language from beginner to Waystage level (A2); as such they will provide an appropriate first step towards the Cambridge Main Suite of examinations (e.g. the Preliminary English Test PET and First Certificate in English FCE) which are designed for young people and adults.

1.9.2010
There are 14 new kids in year 1! The oldest pupils are in year 4 now. Nevertheless we remain a family-type school with personal and individual appproach to both - the children ans the parents. You can learn more about our staff in the Teachers section. We also offer an afternoon programme to 5.30 pm. You can read more in the Afternoon Clubs section. There are several English native speakers and also a couple of men teachers working at the school, so these two of the main Monty principles are still fulfilled.

The last school day
30th June was the last school day. We spent it in the garden and except for the school reports the kids were also dubbed knights as a result of theri good behaviour on the "medieval" school trip, and during the whole school year. We hope they will continue in getting higher ranks in the follownig year being examples for their new schoolmates who will double the number of our students. We are looking forward all the adventures and lovely moments of the 2010/2011 school year. One thing we know for certain - the year theme will be "The world in motion" - so happy holiday and let´s spin our brains in September again!
